Lynn-Berling Manuel: President Lynn Berling-Manuel joined the board of directors of the West Berkeley Foundation in 2000. She served as secretary in 2001 and was elected as president in 2002.
Berling-Manuel is CEO of Soccer America Communications LLC, publishers of Soccer America Magazine and socceramerica.com. The company was based in West Berkeley for over 25 years. She also serves on the board of directors of the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta, N.Y. and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America in Mission, KS. She is a two-term past president of the Professional Soccer Reporters Association, and was a regular contributor to the marketing trade publication Advertising Age. A popular speaker who addresses corporate and soccer gatherings, Berling-Manuel is sought after as a leading voice in the U.S. soccer community. She was an economics major at U.C. Berkeley and is a graduate of the Stanford University Professional Publishing Course.
Maria Lucero Padilla: Vice-President
Maria is a 20+ year employee at UC Berkeley where she coordinates compliance education. She works to promote services and resources to alleviate poverty and provide access for low-income and immigrant communities. She initiated a federally funded program that supports low-income, first-generation-college community college students’ transition to UC Berkeley. This population of student crosses all ethnic and racial lines. They are frequently older and have children. Her work in West Berkeley centers on affordable housing, improved public education, and equity in public services since many of these students reside in West and South Berkeley. She is currently a member of the Berkeley Public Education Foundation (BPEF) and a past member of the Berkeley Library Foundation during efforts to raise funds to refurbish and upgrade the Central Library. She continues to advocate for improving West and South Berkeley community libraries. She and her husband, Genaro Padilla, have lived in Berkeley 20+ years, are the parents of five children, and activist supporters of public education transformation.
Fatima Espejo: Treasurer
Fatima Espejo was born in Peru and raised in Berkeley where she currently lives with her husband Fernando and daughter Christina. Fatima attended local schools and together with her husband runs Laboratory Glass Apparatus, Inc., a manufacturer of laboratory and scientific glassware, located in West Berkeley. The business has been in the family since 1965. Fatima has been a member of the West Berkeley Foundation Board since 2000 and has acted as the Secretary/Treasurer since 2004.

Denise Jenkins
Denise Jenkins grew up in Berkeley and attended Berkeley Public Schools. Growing up in the late 1960s, Denise got involved with the local politics of the day, inspired her dedication to the city as well as the Bay Area. Denise is currently a Human Resources professional at the University of California and has been an employee for over 30 years. She has volunteered for a number of campus-wide initiatives and considers herself an advocate for change. She is the grandmother of three, who attend school in the Berkeley Unified School district. Denise has been a member of the West Berkeley Foundation Board since 2005.
Darryl Moore
Terry O’Hare
Terry is a UC Berkeley graduate who has lived in Berkeley since 1980. He is both an urban and environmental planner with over 25 years experience working on small and large scale development and real estate as well as residential projects. He is the principal in Terence O'Hare Associates, a sole proprietorship environmental and planning firm established in 1995. It provides consultant services related to land use planning, site layout, building design and property acquisition projects for federal, state and local agencies and private developers. He has been a member of the West Berkeley Foundation Board for several years, serving in past years as President and Vice President.
Ana Traylor
Ana Traylor is a doctoral student in Public Policy at UC Berkeley. Ana grew up in Berkeley, attended Berkeley public schools and completed both her BA in Social Welfare and Master of Public Policy degrees at UC Berkeley. Ana’s research at UC Berkeley focuses on the causes, consequences and potential remedies of racial and ethnic disparities in education and health outcomes. Currently an evaluation consultant for Kaiser Permanente and the City of Berkeley, Ana has over 10 years of experience designing, implementing and evaluating community service projects. She has taught public policy analysis at UC Berkeley and San Francisco State Universities. Ana is currently board president of Stiles Hall and serves on the Alameda County Public Health Commission, in addition to her volunteer work with the West Berkeley Foundation. |
